Treasures Handed Down

Prayer and Self Denial 2017

Each year we partner with the New Zealand Baptist Missionary Society supporting Prayer and Self-Denial. It is not just about the financial resources raised or the prayer support targeted at our NZBMS team. It is also about us recognizing that we are a part of a wider Baptist family that goes beyond our town, our region, and our nation. This year the focus is on Taonga/Treasure: The Gospel as Treasure, People are Treasure, and Where is your Treasure?

“The kingdom of heaven is like a treasure that a man discovered hidden in a field. In his excitement, he hid it again and sold everything he owned to get enough money to buy the field.”
Matthew 13:44

“For you are a holy people who belong to the Lord your God. Of all people on Earth, the Lord your God has chosen you to be His own special treasure.”  Deuteronomy 7:6

“Where ever your treasure is, there the desires of your heart will also be.”
Matthew 6:21

A Letter from Rachel Murray – General Director of NZBMS

We believe that mission is central to the heart of God and as followers of Jesus we have a responsibility to be involved, as He has called us to in Acts 1:8 and Matthew 28:18-20. That mandate is equally important to the places in which we live and work, and beyond borders and “to the ends of the earth”. For The NZ Baptist Missionary Society (NZBMS) it’s the latter that is our heartbeat specifically through Asia and the Pacific.

Each year, the Prayer and Self Denial appeal takes a central place for us as a Baptist denomination and is about: Celebrating the stories of transformation and raising awareness of what God is doing through NZ Baptists in Asia. Raising support – prayer and financial – for the work and people of NZBMS. Our team (both local and Kiwi) can only do what they do because of the generous support from you and your church.

Our theme for 2017 is NGA TAONGA TUKU IHO: TREASURES HANDED DOWN. This speaks to both the tangible and intangible treasures that God has handed down to us through many years. We pray that together, each with a part to play, God will be glorified through this appeal and the Kingdom of God will be evident to many around His World.

On behalf of the NZ Baptists who are serving throughout Asia, sent and commissioned on your behalf, we thank you for your support.
