On Friday August 31st we are launching a new Youth Programme here at KBC. It is for Year 6-8 students and will run every second week during term time.
ACTIV8 (activate) is a place where young people can come and have fun in a safe environment and make positive life choices. It could be a night where we end up making banana splits but also try and fit one back into its skin!! Or it could be that we are racing up and down the auditorium trying to carry as many balloons as possible, or maybe even trying to shave one! ACTIV8 is a chance for young people to enjoy themselves and also start to grapple with the challenges of growing up as a young person today. We also look at topics as diverse as friendship, self-esteem and social justice.
The programme has been developed over the last twenty years and over that time hundreds of young people have enjoyed being part of the ACTIV8 tribe. ACTIV8 is designed so that students can have a space where they can have some fun, connect with friends and learn about what makes them and our world so awesome.
ACTIV8 is a ministry of Kaiapoi Baptist Church so its pretty obvious that when we look at things, we come at it from a Christian perspective. That doesn’t mean you have to be a Christian to come. We don’t make a distinction anyway – a young person is a young person, and we are here to make sure that everyone who comes to ACTIV8 knows they are important, valuable and welcome. We do talk about positive life choices and we do believe that following Jesus is the ultimate positive life choice. We also encourage young people to be good friends to one another, to think about global issues and to try and shave a balloon, covered in shaving foam!
If you have any questions please don’t hesitate to contact Simon Williams at Kaiapoi Baptist Church.
ACTIV8 is family friendly, we are here to support the families of our young people in any way we can. It might just be a quick chat or a question but after twenty years of working with young people there isn’t much that we haven’t seen, heard or been asked before.
