As we enter another Covid-19 lock down it is important that we keep our eyes fixed on Jesus the author and perfecter of our faith. (Hebrews 12:2) As the world struggles to contain Covid19 and we continue to face restrictions it also brings the reality of death into the public sphere.
In our society the reality of our mortality has in recent times never been so overtly in focus. In the West we have separated death from our daily existence, most people now die in hospitals and care homes unlike the lived realty of many in the developing world. Covid19 forces us to confront our mortality.
As I have observed the Global response to Covid19 I have wondered how the church can speak into this narrative of fear (death is the ultimate enemy for the humanist) and speak hope into our communities. It begins with us as the people of God adjusting our perspective and overcoming our fear of death.
