Our logo – boredom can end up being quite productive!

Way back in 2006, whilst sitting in a conference and not really listening, but just scribbling on the page, thinking about Intermediate aged young people, those that we used to call Form 1&2 and know they are called Year 7&8.  They seem to have a huge amount of energy, they haven’t quite started hibernating like older teens and yet they are definitely not children. They are solidly in-between, or tweens as they are sometimes called.

Having already spent six years working with Intermediates, I knew any programme would need to be active, it would need to have times where young people could burn off some of that seemingly endless energy, But it also needed to have a balance where they could start to ask and grapple with all the why questions they seem to have.  Not only is their body changing but also their brain. The seem to become a toddler again and: “Why” becomes their favourite question and everything is either awesome or awful, they critique everything.

The navy blue 7 and 8 clearly identify that this is all about Intermediates. The programme has been road tested over twenty years and with hundreds of young people.

The word activate not only speaks to the physically active games and activities that we play and use but also to activating their brains. Students are encouraged and challenged to start thinking about the world they live in.  What it means to be part of a family, a friend, and even social justice issue like poverty and the value of human life.

In the Bible in the book of Acts the verse Acts 1: verse 8 (ACT1V8) says:

But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.”
New International Version (NIV)

ACTIV8 is a Christian ministry, always a part of a local church. We are motivated and empowered by God to provide a place where young people can have fun and make positive life choices.
